How to Prepare

All Western Overland Adventure tours require participants to be self sufficient in terms of food, camping equipment, and vehicle preparations. You can find detailed suggestions on how to prepare on our FAQ page.
The Lake Powell & Grand Staircase Expedition is 165-200 miles between locations with food and fuel availability (depending on reroutes) over rough and sometime technically challenging dirt roads. Additionally, much of the area that we will be in has little or no cell phone coverage.

Weather is a factor that no one can control, so plan for the unexpected. Mid-September in this part of Utah is usually quite dry and hot during the day, but temperatures can drop dramatically at night. Additionally, fall rain storms are not uncommon and this can alter the trail and camp conditions; please plan accordingly.
